I'm a photographer and like other photographers around the world, I am always looking for the perfect light, the perfect background, the perfect pose. Sometimes it's right in front of me, but mostly I have to make it happen with what we have to work with that day.
The picture above was taken in late fall just outside of Galena, Illinois, about 2 weeks after a spectacular color display, and just as the weather had turned from blue skies to gray overcast. We didn't get eye-popping colors but the soft light made those horses look beautiful. Later a little bit of work in PhotoShop after the session brought the horses' expressions and made the photo come to life
The owner of these horses made a big difference in the outcome. They were all completely engaged with her, well-trained, and respectful of her space. Every one had been brushed to a high shine and their all had brand-new matching halters. Plus they were really cute!
Sometimes the perfect shot is all about patience with a large dose of engaging the subject.
